Description
c1900s Southeast Asian Hand Chased Silver Raita Dessert or Rice BowlPresented is an antique, hand crafted silver bowl, dating to the late 1800s or early 1900s. The dish is likely Indian in origin, or possibly Thai or otherwise southeast Asian. This is the perfect size for serving raita or rice, or perhaps a juicy dessert! The dish is hand chased, depicting multiple vignettes around the outside. The designs are very detailed and appealing, all against a richly textured background. The base and rim are decorated with continuous bands of symmetrical design. The inside of the bowl is lined with a substantial layer of brightly polished silver, making it appealing for dinnerware and very easy to clean. The bowl's rim is smoothly rolled, adding an extra touch of luxury.
This bowl is in great condition. The details of the design are in high relief, showing little wear. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. There is a very small amount of dried debris (possibly cork or wood) in the space between the bowl and its liner that you will only notice upon shaking the bowl.
This piece is hand-engraved on the underside with a drawing of a Hindu deity most resembling Shiva. The silver purity is not labeled on the piece, but from our testing, we guarantee it to be at least 900 purity silver.
The bowl stands about 2 1/8 inches tall and measures about 4 1/4 inches in diameter.
This piece weighs 239 grams or 8.4 regular ounces.
